Another suspect offers to testify against Zardari, others in fake accounts case

ISLAMABAD: After two bankers, another suspect in the mega money laundering and fake accounts reference expressed his willingness to become approver to testify against former president Asif Ali Zardari, his sister Faryal Talpur and other accused in the case.

Accountability Judge Muhammad Arshad Malik resumed the hearing of the case as the former president and his sister appeared in the court amid tight security.

He approved bail for Zardari and Talpur against a surety bond of Rs2 million each.

One of the suspects Sher Muhammad offered to become approver to testify in the case. Earlier, two accused, Kiran and Noreen, employees of a private bank, had requested the court to allow them to testify as witnesses. They told the court that they had already submitted a request to the NAB chairman in this regard.

During the course of the hearing today, a NAB prosecutor informed the judge that no decision has been made with regard to the request by the two women to turn approver in the case.

The judge asked the prosecutor about the whereabouts of Hussain Lawai and three other arrested accused. At this, he replied the bureau had written a letter to the Sindh chief secretary for ensuring their appearance in the court but got no response.

The accountability judge directed NAB to take up the matter with the chief secretary again and hinted at approaching the Sindh High Court (SHC) over the matter.

The hearing was adjourned till May 9.
